The General Surgery Residency Program at UT Health Tyler is seeking a qualified applicant to fill one PGY-3 categorical resident position beginning July 1, 2026.
Position Description
This position is for a PGY-3 categorical resident who will join the program at the PGY-3 level and complete the remaining years of general surgery training. The selected resident will participate fully in clinical rotations, operative training, didactics, and scholarly activities alongside current residents in the program.
Program Overview
Our ACGME-accredited program provides comprehensive training in general surgery with strong exposure to subspecialty care including surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, trauma/acute care surgery, endocrine surgery, and advanced gastrointestinal surgery. Residents train in a collaborative academic environment with increasing operative autonomy, strong faculty mentorship, and structured educational programming.
The program emphasizes:
Progressive operative responsibility
Weekly SCORE-based didactics and protected education time
Weekly Morbidity & Mortality Conference
Regular simulation training and skills curriculum
Active resident involvement in clinical research and scholarly activity
Multidisciplinary surgical oncology and complex case exposure
Requirements
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Have successfully completed two years of ACGME-accredited general surgery residency training by June 30, 2026
Be in good standing within their current training program
Be eligible for a Texas medical license
Be eligible to work in the United States
Have demonstrated commitment to a career in general surgery
Preference will be given to applicants with strong clinical performance, professionalism, and academic engagement.
